Matthew Brick: mbrick.k12.al.us
Dear
Parents and Students,
I would like to be the first
one to welcome you to the new school year here at Spain Park High School! This
will be a new and exciting year. I received my bachelor's degree at
Jacksonville State University in physical education. I am also the cross
country and track and field coach at Spain Park High School.
Teaching
Philosophy: Physical
education is a class that incorporates lifelong skills to learn about healthy
growth and development. I believe that being physically active for a lifetime
is important. The future of physical education is in the hands of new teachers
with new teaching styles. Activities that eliminate students, involve standing
around, and do not encourage students to succeed, must be taken out of present
teacher’s plans.

Belief Statement: It is the mission of the Spain Park High School P.E. program to provide
a variety of appropriate activities through instruction that will allow the
student to gain cognitive learning, physical skills, and personal or social
skills that will provide them to be physically active across their lifespan.
Course Overview: The physical
education curriculum is designed to help students recognize the importance of
regular physical activity. All students are given the opportunity
to select activities. Students are encouraged to select a variety of activities
that include fitness, individual and team activities.
Curriculum
Overview: The first day of Physical Education class will cover the
following: syllabus, grading, and lockers. Every class will begin with a
warm-up or a fitness activity. All students will be electing their activities.
They will include; golf, softball, volleyball, tennis, frisbee games, fitness
walking, basketball, or racquet sports. These activities will be based on the
Alabama Physical Education State Course of Study.
Course Objective: To refine motor skills, such as throwing or catching.
Also, to participate in team sport and individual sport activities in order to
play by the rules in a good manner.
Policies/
Expectations: Each student is responsible for his/her own valuables during the class
period. Discipline issues may be handled immediately by the teacher by physical
consequences (i.e. push-ups, crunches, jogging extra laps). Students are responsible for getting the note
to the PE teacher.
Dress
Requirements: All clothing must allow for safe participation in
the activities. Tennis Shoes are required for all activities. Also, skirts and
dresses are not allowed along with baseball hats and sunglasses. Students are
expected to remove all jewelry.
Lockers: You may use the
lockers to store personal items.
